I would like to assemble the Slattum bed frame, but I'm having trouble attaching the headboard to the bed frame. The instructions say to attach it using the screws provided, but they don't seem to fit. What can I do?

I'm planning to put the SLATTUM bed frame in a small room and I was wondering if it would be possible to remove or adjust the padded headboard to make more space under the bed?
