The ottoman is designed primarily as a footrest or extra seating, with the storage space underneath the seat. While you could potentially place drinks or snacks on top of the ottoman, it does not have a flat, stable surface intended for that purpose. The ottoman is 16 7/8" tall, which may be too low to comfortably use as a coffee table. For a more suitable coffee table option, you may want to consider other IKEA products designed specifically for that use
