Posted on Dec 31, 2023I've been using my Askholmen Armchair for a few years now, and I'm starting to notice that the wood is showing signs of wear. How do I clean and maintain the acacia wood to keep it looking its best?

Answered on Jan 02, 2024To clean and maintain the acacia wood on your ASKHOLMEN Armchair, follow these steps:
1. Wipe down the chair with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or debris. Avoid using harsh cleaners or abrasives as they can damage the wood.
2. If the wood is starting to look dry or faded, apply a thin layer of outdoor wood furniture oil or sealer. This will help protect the wood and keep it looking fresh.
3. For tougher stains or discoloration, you can lightly sand the affected areas with fine-grit sandpaper, being careful not to remove too much of the existing finish.
4. Once cleaned and treated, allow the wood to fully dry before using the chair again.
5. To maintain the chair long-term, reapply the wood oil or sealer every 6-12 months, or as needed based on the chair's appearance and exposure to the elements.

Answered on Sep 14, 2022To make stacking the ASKHOLMEN armchairs easier for winter storage, here are a few tips:
1. Ensure the chairs are completely dry before stacking. Any moisture can cause the wood to swell and make stacking more difficult.
2. Remove any cushions or accessories that may be attached to the chairs. This will allow the chairs to nest together more snugly.
3. When stacking, tilt the chair slightly and interlock the arms of one chair with the seat of the chair below it. This will help the chairs stay securely stacked.
4. You can also try rotating the orientation of the chairs, alternating the direction the arms are facing. This can help the chairs fit together more compactly.
5. Apply a small amount of silicone-based furniture polish or wax to the wood surfaces. This can help the chairs slide against each other more easily when stacking.
Following these steps should make it easier to neatly stack and store your ASKHOLMEN armchairs over the winter

Additionally, are there any plans to make this chair in other colors or finishes besides dark brown?
Finally, how well does the pre-treatment with semi-transparent wood stain hold up against weathering and maintenance?

Answered on Aug 27, 2022The seat on the ASKHOLMEN Armchair is not removable for cleaning. It is a fixed part of the chair's construction.
Currently, the ASKHOLMEN Armchair is only available in the dark brown finish. IKEA does not have any plans to offer this chair in additional color or finish options at this time.
The semi-transparent wood stain used as a pre-treatment provides good protection against weathering and wear. However, over time and with exposure to the elements, the stain may fade or wear off. Periodic re-application of a wood stain or sealant can help maintain the appearance and protect the acacia wood
